Theresa D’Emden

A message from Theresa d’Emden founder of elevate business culture.

Running a business is challenging for anyone irrespective of their background. However, I believe most people can succeed when they explore their strengths (what they are good at) and their uniqueness, passion and abilities.

A lot of people have good ideas that can be turned into money making businesses. With the right research, support and passion your idea can be turned into an operating business.

In most cases people do this as a hobby or something they enjoy the most. Having a business idea can lead to success if you have the right people to help and motivate you to action. To turn that idea into a successful business involves brainstorming, strategy, and action.

This is where I come in

I look at the idea behind the business to determine viability, I encourage self-belief, support clients by narrowing down what they are good at and their skill set so that their idea reaches its full potential and turned into an operating business. I coach and develop new business owners in managing and executing their business plans. This includes writing business plans, reviewing and defining processes that assess capability shortages. As a mentor I collaborate with my clients to execute their vision, ensuring that compliance with legislation is met and desired outcomes are achieved.

What do I know about it?

Before I became a business consultant, I spent years working on my own businesses and family owned business developing and implementing the business and strategic plans. I have taken many businesses from idea to execution even before I realised that entrepreneurship is what I know and what I enjoy most.

Being from a migrant background this meant that in my early stage in business I had to make new connections, find ways to navigate businesses in Australia and understand the legal requirements. Over the years I have learned what works and what does not.

As an entrepreneur with experience in different industries, specialising in product manufacturing and service-based businesses. I have used that experience to help my clients create unique brands — starting with their idea.

Background, who am I?

I am a Zambian born Australian, wife and mother of three. I moved to Australia in 2001 on a student visa studying a bachelors degree in Human Resource Management at the University of Notre Dame, Australia. I have since became an Australian citizen and I am passionate about using my experiences to help migrants integrate.

I now call Australia home and find that we have so many opportunities here. The Australian government both at the state and federal level need migrants to assimilate and as such create opportunities for this to happen. As migrants we must find and use these opportunities to help grow our business ventures and careers.
